This image still needs some help with the identifications. File:National Negro Business League Executive Committee LCCN2014688320.jpg I have been using a free account at Familysearch to try and find them in the census. RAN (talk) 22:38, 27 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

I see you found more, lets keep going together. Do you plan to create Wikidata entries for the guys without them? If you do the external links can be migrated there and deleted from Commons. We have just a few more to work out. --RAN (talk) 02:15, 11 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
Hey, I am working on the Wikipedia article for Dr. Samuel Edward Courtney at the moment. I would welcome any help with the wikidata entries. PigeonChickenFish (talk) 02:37, 11 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
  • I am blocked at Wikidata, if you edit long enough, you will bump into someone with a grudge who has the power to block you. I reverted a single edit which led to a harassment campaign against me. They nominated the last 400 images I loaded for deletion then brought the campaign to Wikidata. Most are here to contribute peacefully, to others this is a blood sport. If you find a good image or obit, make sure you load it to at least three places on the internet. I add to Findagrave and Familysearch, that way if someone deletes it here over a petty dispute, someone can still find it. --RAN (talk) 01:23, 12 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
I am sorry that has happened to you, that is terrible. Thank you for the advice. I will work on this stuff but it might take me awhile. PigeonChickenFish (talk) 01:26, 12 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for helping with categorization, but...

I see your point of the problem. I did not realize this subject was a category prior to this specific tag being added (a mistake). It has been removed since. I hope you have a happy new year. PigeonChickenFish (talk) 03:17, 1 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi

[edit]

Hi PigeonChickenFish. The Julius Jacobsen photo is my great grandfather. How did you come across this photo? NorthwestNess (talk) 17:44, 5 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I am not sure which photo you are referring to, but in commons you can see the source in which the file originates from (as well as any licensing). PigeonChickenFish (talk) 20:17, 5 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Brinton or Brenton

[edit]

Brinton or Brenton appears to be a neighborhood in East Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Did you find any info on it? There is no wikidata entry for it. "Mr. Velar moved to Brenton, Pa, where he served as postmaster for ten years." If it had a post office it would appear in lots of documents and appear in the census. RAN (talk) 00:45, 21 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hiǃ Yes, Brinton is now a neighborhood (or an area) within East Pittsburgh. However I don't know if it was always that way, or if it used to be a separate municipal area in the late 19th-century? In c. August 1907, Velar left his job as the postmaster, and the Brinton postmaster role was consolidated with East Pittsburgh postmaster role. There are a significant number of sources in Google Books, also this subject has a Wikipedia article now too. PigeonChickenFish (talk) 02:38, 22 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

Familysearch

[edit]

If you get a free account at Familysearch, you can find more exact birth and death dates using the census. You can also create and entry if one does not exist for each person. Wikidata has an Identifier for Familysearch. Best free resource for biographical info on obscure people. RAN (talk) 04:09, 4 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

I worked on more precise identification of the individuals in the image, see if you can distinguish them better. Three of the daughters look like clones of their mother, even down to their hairstyle. The best I could do was distinguish the oldest and youngest and mark them as "most likely". Feel free to make any changes. I was hoping they might have applied for passports, but no.
