Clean up to improve appearance
[edit]Article(s): en:Paul Martin (illustrator) - reachable via the link in reference 201.
- Request
Hello. I am the original uploader of this image. I still have the original magazine. I would like to avoid any alterations that would require a new file name. Please tweak this image to make it more presentable. Notice how there is a bluish tint or something in the lower-third left section, for instance. The background should be more naturally uniform. I'd appreciate just some touch-ups to improve the overall quality without creating a new file name. That might mean improving the focus and coloring and removing any glare area. I attempted to improve the image with my basic image editor on May 2, 2025 (under "File history"). However, I seemed to give it an artificial glitter appearance instead. Update. I increased size and tried again w/o success on 7/5.
- Graphist opinion(s)
- Hi JimPercy, I strongly recommend rephotographing if that’s possible. Ideally use a bright sunny room during the day, but set the magazine as far away from the windows and direct sunlight as possible. Turn indoor lights off (if using natural light); we don’t want mixed lighting sources that have differing colours. Zoom your lens in, step back and set your shutter speed to 1/100 or higher. Take the photo without cropping in the outside edge of the magazine, and we can crop digitally. HTGS (talk) 18:50, 11 November 2025 (UTC)

Signature and hopefully identification for portrait of William James, Bishop of Durham, 1606-1617
[edit]- Request
- Hello, can someone take a look at this file: Portrait of William James, Bishop of Durham, 1606-1617 signed by William James. A cropped version of the file for the signature would be great to add to the Category:William James (bishop) and William James. Thank you so much. Lotje (talk) 16:17, 30 November 2025 (UTC)
- Graphist opinion(s)
- I'm not a graphist, but that's not William James' signature, it's a printer's mark indicating they redrew the oil painting for a printing plate. You also didn't even link to the version with the signature, which isn't on Commons. -Nard (Hablemonos) (Let's talk) 01:31, 3 December 2025 (UTC)
Remove unwanted motorcycle shadow (Agadir Souk Al Had)
[edit]-
360° panoramic view of the main gate of Souk Al Had, Agadir. The issue is an unwanted motorcycle shadow visible on the right foreground pavement.
Article(s): Agadir, Souk El Had
- Request
- Please remove the **unwanted motorcycle shadow** visible on the **right-hand side foreground pavement** of the image.
- The edit should preserve the natural stone texture and lighting consistency of the ground, without altering people, architecture, or perspective.
- No cropping is requested; only a clean retouch to eliminate the shadow artifact.
- This image is intended for encyclopedic use, so the result should remain realistic and neutral.
- Thank you. --Flaspec (talk) 12:11, 23 December 2025 (UTC)
- Massive stacking errors visible - do you have the original files? Grunpfnul (talk) 12:31, 23 December 2025 (UTC)

- Massive stacking errors visible - do you have the original files? Grunpfnul (talk) 12:31, 23 December 2025 (UTC)
- For reference, the exact location corresponding to the affected foreground area can be found in **Google Maps (satellite imagery)** at the following coordinates (Street View also available):
- 30.411268, -9.579653
- This should allow precise inspection of the pavement texture and lighting conditions. Hopefully it helps with a realistic reconstruction. --Flaspec (talk) 13:43, 23 December 2025 (UTC)

- Remember these requests are all done by volunteers and it has been the holiday season. Maybe no one was interested in such images for work you can easily do yourself, or they were too busy. There are no deadlines here so please be patient. You can easily do this with the crop tool that you find in your preferences when you have a registered account. Check out the details given 5 posts below this one. Ww2censor (talk) 12:08, 6 January 2026 (UTC)
- Also note, mate unless these images are truly yours you shouldn't be requesting to crop or manipulate them without the user's permission. If you want to do so please create an account and you can crop and manipulate them yourself by creating a new file. Lots of users do it that way, including myself --LuvsMG481 (talk) 05:47, 18 March 2026 (UTC)

- No worries. JayCubby (talk) 19:24, 23 February 2026 (UTC)

- I’m using the first and third image in two Charles and Betty Birthright articles. The original woman's image was dark and I brightened it. I was wondering if her image could be improved. I am including the original and my edit. The image of the couple, Charles and Betty, can that also be improved? And the last image of the couple in front of their historic home, I have not used it in the house article, because it is such a poor quality image. Can that be improved enough to use on their historic house Wiki page? Thank you for any help.
MauraWen (talk) 19:35, 27 March 2026 (UTC)
- MauraWen, the last image is interpolated. Can you provide a link to where you found it, if it is accessible online? I want to see if I can pull a better copy. If it is not accessible online, never mind.
- I used a Fourier transform to reduce some of the halftone, but you will get a far better result if you scan the newspapers at a high resolution, using an overhead or flatbed scanner. Cell phones are really quite lousy at scanning. JayCubby (talk) 20:39, 27 March 2026 (UTC)
- JayCubby Newspapers.com Memphis Press-Scimitar, sept 7, 1978: url=https://www.newspapers.com/image/800655461/?match=1. I access the newspapers online, so I am not sure how I could scan a physical copy.
- The old house image was on page 6 and her image was on page 1. I used the photos of Betti and the couple that I took with my iphone of a historic display at a Missouri welcome center. that image is better than the newspaper's image. Thanks for your advice! MauraWen (talk) 21:00, 27 March 2026 (UTC)
- MauraWen, thanks. Given the papers you photographed are on display, scanning them will be a bit trickier. Is what I did to the first an improvement? - @MauraWen, 2nd one done (I reduced the noise somewhat with a FFT, then curved the lighting). If you can get the Marston Welcome Center to rescan the photos, then I will be able to get a much better result. JayCubby (talk) 23:02, 27 March 2026 (UTC)

- JayCubby Thx for the 2nd edit. I won't be able to get a scan from the Welcome Center. I don't know who created the display, It was probably commissioned by the state of Missouri and the images and content were probably taken from several sources: libraries, newspapers, Dunklin County museum, private collections, etc. There is no staff at the welcome center. I could look into the county historical society, but I’m not sure they would provide a new scan, as museums often have restrictions on reproducing images from their collections, even public domain era photos. - Hey all, I've found several different scans of this mugshot, but unfortunately, each one of them has its own share of problems. The current version is the highest-resolution version, but it has some hard reflective light towards the top, is missing the left side of the photograph, has the number "462" written on the photograph and shows a thumb holding the photograph in place. The previous version shows the full left side of the photograph, but also has reflected light and markings, and the edge of the photograph in the bottom right. - Hello! I took several photographs of artifacts (paintings, maps, documents) at a museum, and I would love some help processing them so they look as close to flat, high-quality archival scans as possible.
- Could someone please help correct the perspective to flatten them out, crop away the backgrounds/frames, and adjust the white balance and brightness to remove the warm museum lighting? They were shot with a Canon EOS REBEL SL1 kit lens, so some also need lens correction to fix the noticeable barrel distortion (bulge).
